Bundi Insights started with a question: why do the people running Africa's most resilient businesses have the worst access to information about their own numbers?
We visited markets, kiosks, and shops across Nairobi. Every owner was sharp, driven, and running on memory. Not because they did not care. Because nothing was built for them.
The observation
that started it all
2023
Our founders spent months in markets and small shops across Nairobi. Every owner they met ran their business from their head. Sales in a notebook. Money owed remembered, not recorded. No dashboard. No data.
The tools that existed were built for offices. For accountants with laptops and time to sit down. A mama mboga closing 200 transactions before noon had no use for any of it.

Orders, supplier calls, customer follow-ups. It all ran on WhatsApp. We did not need to teach anyone a new habit. The infrastructure was already there.
So we built Bundi inside it. You keep doing what you do. Bundi reads your messages, organises the numbers, and sends you back a picture of your business you could not get any other way.
Bundi is the Swahili word for owl. Owls watch quietly. They notice things others miss. That is what we wanted this product to do. Your business runs at all hours. Bundi pays attention so you do not have to.

We build on WhatsApp because that is already where business happens. We focus on the informal economy because that is where most African businesses actually are.
